SUBJ: NASCAR Drivers Turn Out for Fundraiser
Shane Martin is far from your ordinary candidate… just look at his set of friends.
During his first real fundraiser held in
Spartanburgat Phoenix Racing, Friday night, a dozen drivers turned out, including Kevin
Harvick, Derrike Cope, Mike Wallace, Joe Nemechek, Ron Hornaday, Jack Sprague, Matt
Crafton, Johnny Sauter, David Pearson, Larry Pearson, Bud Moore, and Cotton Owens.
The drivers signed autographs and posed for pictures with Martin’s supporters.
With more than 200 attending, Shane Martin drew a larger crowd than most of the
recent Presidential candidates did in the Upstate. Everyone really enjoyed themselves,
from meeting the drivers, to touring the race shop, to eating the steaks cooked
up by Freddy B’s Catering.
The event was packed with a large variety of Martin supporters including doctors,
engineers, firemen, mechanics, retirees, small business owners, and even some students.
“Everyone loves Shane,” said Nancy Layton, lifelong friend of Martin. “He’s that
type of person. He never meets a stranger.”
Martin believes it is his accessibility which makes him popular. Currently serving
on the District 6 School Board, his business cards have always contained his cell
phone number.
“The turnout was great because people are tired of attorneys running our lives from
both
Washington
,
DC
and
Columbia
, SC.,” said Kerry Wood, a staunch supporter of Martin. “I don’t care what your
political views are, it’s simply impossible to argue that we would all be better
off with MORE attorneys representing us.”
Martin is running for State Senate District 13 which encompasses precincts in the
counties of
Spartanburg
, Union, and
Greenville
. With a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, he is small business owner who manages
the NASCAR Busch Series and oversees the Craftsman Truck Aerodynamic Program for
Chevrolet, deacon in his church, school board member, husband of Amy Martin, and
father of two.
